White tie

When the dress code is white tie, we’re talking about the very top of men’s formal wear. In fact, it’s all formality, so much so that it doesn’t allow any alterations to what it is, otherwise it wouldn’t be.

White tie is the most formal of men’s dress codes, generally reserved for gala events, official ceremonies, balls and alike. This dress code is characterised by a specific set of garments that convey elegance and formality.

The central element of the “white tie” costume is the tailcoat jacket, which is a longer version of the tailcoat jacket, usually made of black, midnight blue or dark grey fabric, with some body. The white shirt with a high collar and babette cuff. The most important accessory of this outfit is the white bow tie, which should be made of thick fabric like satin, and which adds a classic touch to the ensemble.

The trousers are black and usually have two black satin stripes along the side seam. The appropriate footwear is black, polished leather oxford-style shoes or dress shoes. Men can also choose to wear black socks.
